Trump Criticizes 'Crazed' Media Coverage of ChantNewser — Newser Editors
On Thursday, President Trump said he wasn't happy that supporters broke out in a "send her back" chant at his political rally in North Carolina. On Friday, Trump said he wasn't happy with media coverage of the controversy, either.
"It is amazing how the Fake News Media became 'crazed' over the chant ... but is totally calm & accepting of the most vile and disgusting statements made by the three Radical Left Congresswomen," he wrote.
He further accused the mainstream media of being in a "sick partnership" with the left and faulted coverage of what he called a "staged" welcoming of Rep.
Ilhan Omar by her supporters at a Minnesota airport.
He again accused Omar of hating America and predicted that he'd win North Carolina in 2020 "because they can’t stand her and her hatred of our Country, and they appreciate all that I have done for them." Meanwhile, Germany's Angela Merkel became the latest world leader to criticize Trump's original call for Omar and three congressional colleagues to "go back" to where they're from, reports Politico.
"The strength of the United States, from my point of view, is precisely that it's a country where people from all different kinds of nationalities have contributed to the strength of the American people," said Merkel, adding that Trump's comments "run counter to the strength of the United States." Canada's Justin Trudeau, the UK's Theresa May, and New Zealand's Jacinda Ardern previously criticized Trump's remarks.
