Ronny Jackson, the former White House physician to the past three presidents. And, yes, he's going up against 14 other Republicans in Texas' highly conservative 13th District.
But at the very end of the piece comes the cauliflower nugget, where he expresses regret in having given up his gig as physician (President Trump wanted him for head of the VA, but he ended up having to pull his name from contention) when he did.
Jackson says he had intended to get Trump on an exercise bike or elliptical machine in a quest to shave 10 to 15 pounds off his frame but left the post before that plan came to fruition.
"The exercise stuff never took off as much as I wanted it to," Jackson tells the Times. "But we were working on his diet. We were making the ice cream less accessible, we were putting cauliflower into the mashed potatoes." Trump ended up gaining four pounds that year.
The piece takes a deeper look at Jackson's campaign, which isn't exactly sophisticated and thus far hasn't gotten much help from the big names (Trump among them) that have praised him in the past.
