Everton's Barkley doesn't travel to Netherlands due to groin injurytheScore
Ross Barkley is staying at home. Again.
Everton's squad left for the Netherlands on Monday afternoon, but Barkley didn't travel because of a groin injury that also prevented the English midfielder from joining his club in Tanzania for the Toffees' first pre-season tour.
According to the Guardian's Andy Hunter, Barkley could leave Goodison Park after failing to sign a contract extension. The footballer is reportedly linked with Tottenham Hotspur and several other clubs in the Premier League as he enters the final year of his contract.
Ronald Koeman was asked in May about whether he felt confident that Barkley would stay. The Dutch manager said: "No, because it is a long time that he is thinking about his future. But I'm not worried because I like to work with players who like to stay. And it is not about his decision. We will go on. We are looking for players in that position. Even if he stays, there will be more competition for him next season."
