Yankees place Tanaka on DL with shoulder inflammationtheScore — Brandon Wile
After finally piecing together a string of decent performances, Masahiro Tanaka has encountered a setback.
Tanaka said there's no structural damage, but rather that his arm feels tired, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
"I believe that this time off will get me back stronger and get me back on track," Tanaka said.
Following a disastrous start to the season, Tanaka had posted a 3.13 ERA over his last five starts while holding opponents to a .212/.254/.381 slash line.
Tanaka last pitched Wednesday in Toronto, allowing three runs (two earned) off two hits and a season-high five walks over just four innings against the Blue Jays.
Jordan Montgomery was called up earlier this week after CC Sabathia was placed on the DL, meaning the Yankees will likely need to promote another starter to replace Tanaka.
